I'm Kheyala (kay-YAH!-la), the Music Mom.

My love affair with music began as a little child and I have not forgotten the magic of that sweet discovery. Having the innate ability to imitate whatever I heard on any instrument I happened to pick up made my later study of music a natural choice.    

I could describe the history of my degree and the many groups in which I performed, but most importantly - and honestly, the best part - is that I have been having fun making music with children forever. 
In fact, thanks to social media I connected with one of my former summer campers after 30 years. Guess what she remembered the most about her counselor and that summer? The music we created together!  

When my own children began instrumental music in BVSD I had to see it up close. After all, this had been the very best part of school for me!  Teachers soon invited me to work separately with individuals, small groups, and sectionals. Before long, my name appeared on the lists of recommended private music teachers all over Boulder County. 

For 9 years and in 8 different BVSD schools, I continue to work with hundreds of diverse students in instrumental band classes. 
I love starting the youngest out on their new instruments and seeing their excitement at what they are able to do. 
I also love taking the students who have a passion like mine past the school curriculum where they are playing all their favorite music on their own.  
I love offering support before a student has a music test, an audition, or a solo so that they can walk in the door - or on stage - with the security that comes from their own confidence. 

  Even though I have traveled extensively and still live far away from where I started, it is my school and college music friends that I am still in touch with to this day.    
It seems that while most everything changes in life, my love for music and for young people… those things have never changed.
